Mike Johnson turns on Hegseth over plan to broadcast firing squad execution

Skip to content All News Sport Culture Lifestyle House speaker becomes latest conservative to voice disquiet over plan to broadcast killing of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan in December: ‘We’ve got to think through the policy implications’ (Bell County Sheriff's Office) House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed concern over Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth 's plan to livestream the execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan, warning it could be used as a terrorist recruiting tool. Hasan was convicted of killing 13 people and injuring 32 others in a 2009 military base shooting in Texas and is scheduled to die by firing squad on December 3. If broadcast, the event would mark the first public execution in the United States since 1936.

President Donald Trump stated he will ultimately decide whether to allow the broadcast, while emphasizing his strong support for Hasan's death penalty. A growing number of politicians, including Vice President JD Vance and several Republican lawmakers, have voiced strong objections to livestreaming the execution. In full Mike Johnson warns livestream execution could be ‘a recruiting tool for future terrorists’ More bulletins Thank you for registering Please refresh the page or navigate to another page on the site to be automatically logged in Please refresh your browser to be logged in
